Isn’t dentistry wonderful?

October 30, 2006

Yeah I went there.

Ah yes, so before we even get started:

Yes I’m pretty sure I will like this in 40 years.

The reason I picked this particular design is because ever since I was a little Heather, I’ve been infatuated with Egyptian culture. I can still remember walking to the Westfield Public Library by myself when I was a kid, spending hours and hours there and reading books on Egyptian mythology, culture, lifestyle and beliefs. Well, that and Isaac Asimov books. Anyway, I would bring home 8 books on Tutankhamun (wow I spelled that right the first time) and have them all read by the end of the third day.

Here’s a history lesson:

Horus, represented as the falcon-headed god, was an important god in Egyptian legend. The symbol representing his eye, Eye of Horus, was a powerful symbol used to protect from evil. Pronounced “udjat” by the Egyptians, the Eye of Horus represents a human eye with the cheek markings of a falcon. The ancient Egyptian Eye of Horus or wedjat (‘Whole One’) is a powerful symbol of protection, and is also considered to confer wisdom, health and prosperity. The ancient Egyptians considered the eye of horus as a representative of eternal renewal of the kingdom from Pharaoh to pharaoh.

The ancient Egyptians believed that this symbol has a very powerful and magical effect on restoring harmony to the unstabilized world and restoring unrightful things.

According to the old myth, the rivalling god Seth tore Horus’ eye out. Seth was his uncle, who contended with him for the Egyptian throne after he had killed and dismembered his father, Osiris. Thot, the wise moon god and the patron of the sciences and the art of writing, put it patiently back in order and healed it. As an ambiguous symbol, it describes the status of regained soundness.

I decided to not yet get it shaded. I want to make sure I can cover it up with makeup for special occasions if necessary.

Now on to the pics. This was done by Andy’s friend’s shop in Fort Wayne called Studio 13, his name is Jake Farris. The artist’s name is Dusty Neal.

We’re about to get started and I’m prepping myself for pain.

You can see the outline of the “stencil” he uses to draw the permanent ink onto with the needle.

Ok, this shit’s starting to hurt now. Near the bottom of the circle it was pretty much on the top of my spine. That fucker hurt.

Halfway done.

Finished product.

Oh but wait, I wanted my first tattoo that I got done in 2004 touched up. What a great idea!

There’s a needle in my toe.

Yeah fuck that shit.

So here’s the finished product on Sunday night. It’s scabbed a little bit and still hurts, but I’m pretty pleased with it. I might get it shaded later, but I’d like to be able to make-up it over for a certain dress if necessary.

Head on over to Andy’s blog to see his tat.

Steal my pics and die, fucker.
